Xiaomi has sold 34.7 million smartphones, the annual target is still far
Founded only 5 years ago by Lei Jun, Xiaomi is growing rapidly. From 7.2 million phones sold in 2012, the company grew to 18.7 million in 2013, then 61 million in 2014.
However, this dynamism will probably not allow it to reach its objectives for 2015. Indeed, Lei Jun announced to count on 80 to 100 million telephones sold in 2015 during a press conference a few months ago. However, Mi ultimately sold 34.7 million in the first six months of the year, as announced on July 1.

A first manufacturing site outside of China
Also, it continues to expand worldwide. For the first time, the Chinese manufacturer of smartphone is exported outside the Asian continent with its establishment in Brazil announced on Tuesday, June 30. Marketing should begin next week of its Redmi 2 model. The phones will be produced on site. This is the first time that part of Xiaomi’s manufacturing has been done outside of China. A relocation which explains by the heavy taxation imposed by Brazil on imported telephones.
“Brazil is, for us, a springboard to the rest of South America. We are attacking Latin America through Brazil and, of course, we focus on this country first before going any further, ”explained Xiaomi Global Vice President Hugo Barra, during a interview given on July 1 on CNBC. The company will have to adapt to the distribution method in force in Brazil, where the phones are sold in informal distributors.
If it now attacks the South American market through Brazil, will Chinese society go so far as to seek to extend its field of action to Europe or the United States? According to Hugo Barra’s statements in February, Xiaomi is targeting Western countries, but only for the sale of accessories, at first. Xiaomi plans to launch American and Western versions of the Mi.com site to sell helmets, connected bracelets and other external batteries. However, it is not yet a question of selling smartphones or tablets, unlike Indonesia or India where the brand saw its sales quickly take off.
Xiaomi hopes to reach $ 32 billion in sales in 2015.
