Webedia continues its offensive in the video games sector. The group specializing in publishing thematic sites has just bought the Montpellier start-up Scimob. This publisher of mobile games presents about seven opuses on its website, most of which are based on quizzes or questions of general knowledge. The transaction amount was not sent.
7 million euros turnover in 2016
Founded in 2008, the start-up now claims up to 2 million daily players on its applications and expects to achieve 7 million euros in turnover in 2016. Finally, in October, Scimob was distinguished by the Syntec Numérique during its evening which brought together 250 software publishers.
“In this phase of hyper-growth, backing up to a large group is for us the best way to continue to grow our business over the long term,” says Gaël Bonnafous, the founder of Scimob. Webedia’s agility and its complementary expertise to ours will allow us to increase our activity tenfold while focusing on our own core business ”.
Games, Webedia’s strategic focus
The group chaired by Véronique Morali sees many possible synergies with Scimob, such as the creation of entertainment content. He will be able to help the start-up monetize its audience. At the same time, the start-up’s teams should remain in Montpellier, while a pooling of activities in Levallois-Perret, at the Webedia headquarters, had prevailed until then.
This new acquisition of Webedia is part of its desire to break into games. The group notably bought the Jeuxvideo.com site in France, but also Millenium.org and the operating license for the IGN site. He also embarked on esports competitions.
