TF1, France Télévisions and M6 are joining forces to counter Netflix in France. The three French audiovisual groups will launch a common video on demand platform.

Why this is important: The arrival of this VOD service finally comes to concretize an alliance which took time to take shape. In 2015, TF1, M6, Orange and France Télévisions began discussions to merge their video on demand services. Ultimately, the negotiations were unsuccessful and the project of a “French Netflix” was abandoned. Earlier this year, France Télévisions suspended its own paid platform project. The latter will finally see the light of day with the support of TF1 and M6. It must be said that time is running out for the three major audiovisual groups because Netflix has enjoyed growing success in France in recent months. At the end of March, the American giant claimed 3.4 million subscribers in France, with an increase of 100,000 subscribers per month.

Tenants condemned to pay the landlord the rents collected on Airbnb. A couple of Parisian tenants were ordered to pay more than 27,000 euros to their owner for having sublet the apartment without his agreement.

Why this is important: In a procedure that lasted three years, the tenants and the owner responded by legal texts, until this decision. If the courts had already ordered the eviction of tenants for similar disputes, this new decision could set a precedent.

Didi Chuxing continues to expand internationally in Australia. The VTC platform will be accessible from June 25 in Melbourne.

Why this is important: Australia will serve as a full-scale test for Didi Chuxing to assess its competitiveness in Western markets. Depending on the results obtained on Australian roads, the Chinese giant will be able to refine its international expansion strategy, in particular by deciding whether or not to launch in Europe and the United States. Historically, China has wielded a stronger influence in Southeast Asia and Latin America, two key regions for Didi Chuxing to gain market share outside of its home market. To finance its international ambitions, the Chinese giant raised $ 4 billion in December 2017.
