The start-up of the day: Trencube, the sensor that analyzes the pedestrian flows of physical stores
Once plugged into an electrical outlet, the box does not require any technical knowledge.
Frenchweb invites you today to discover Trencube, a Toulouse start-up which publishes a sensor measuring and analyzing pedestrian flows in front of physical signs. More details with Guillaume Lebret, co-founder.
Frenchweb: How did you get the idea of your society ?
Guillaume Lebret: My job and my original passion is the web and the use of technologies to develop an audience and sales (improve conversion rates, reduce rebounds…). Then, in 2013, I realized that by detecting smartphones in stores, we were getting the same types of data as with Google Analytics.
The idea was born: to bring to physical stores the same weapons as those of e-commerce. We have therefore developed a box that can detect and identify smartphones in the vicinity.
What need are you responding to?
Trencube makes it possible to collect, measure and use data on customer behavior… in the real world. The merchant will have objective data that will allow him to optimize the management of his business.
Knowing the traffic in front of the window allows you to adjust your team schedules. The detection of customers who enter the store and who had never been in the area before (a shopping gallery for example) makes it possible to measure the impact of a communication campaign.
Very simply, how do you earn of money?
We provide boxes that just need to be plugged into a power outlet (they can be configured by themselves). The trader, the sector manager or the manager can then view his figures on our online tool. We charge for access to our tool in SaaS mode. Offers start at 64 euros per month and are non-binding.
Who are your competitors?
Our competitors are all the companies that measure traffic in the “real” world. Many cumbersome solutions exist, based on thermal cameras, infrared sensors. I let you imagine the prices and the necessary works and adjustments …
What or which companies are you being compared to in error?
We are often compared to the counters that exist at the entrance of shops or museums. We do not count customers, we detect the flow of customers and passers-by by identifying them uniquely and anonymously. This is why we can tell how long customers spend in stores or how many days they take to return.
What was one of the first issues in your development, and how did you deal with it?
We had to make the commissioning of our box very easy for traders. We have removed the ethernet cable from the first versions by making our object connected through the use of M2M chips. There is only one socket left to plug in …
What is your main asset in this market?
Our strength is to be the first detection box that you can purchase directly online. The cost of use is very competitive. A trade that uses the data provided will be able to generate savings and gains at least 10 times greater.
