The Opera browser prepares for its arrival on tablets, starting with the iPad

Opera Software today confirmed its imminent arrival on the buoyant digital tablet market. He will unveil during the Mobile World Congress Barcelona next week a new version of its Opera Mini browser for iPad.

The world’s number one internet browser for telephony claims 90.4 million users for Opera Mini and 15 million for Opera Mobile. The Norwegian group represents 21% of market share in mobile browsers, against 14.4% to 17.9% for BlackBerry, iPhone, Nokia or Android browsers, according to StatCounter.

According to research firm Gartner, some 55 million tablets could be sold next year, against 19.5 million this year, which fully justifies Opera’s interest in this new booming market.
