RockMelt, the new browser that takes into account the social media environment finalizes a second round of $ 30 million with Accel Partners, Khosla Ventures. Andreessen-Horowitz, already present during the first round of nearly € 7 million, are still in the game.
RockMelt allows you to navigate in a known universe while keeping permanent contact with its Facebook and Twitter contacts, the updates of which are permanently accessible. Personalization is done via Facebook Connect.
The browser, the search part of which is built on a Chromium 11 base, is available in the form of Windows and Mac OS applications and in a mobile version for iPhone. RockMelt has not yet reached the symbolic mark of one million active users and will focus on its acquisition policy.
To date, the company has not yet revealed a clear business model even if traditional search revenues seem to be the solution chosen once a critical mass of users is reached. RockMelt now has around 40 employees and will double its workforce in the coming months.
It therefore remains for RockMelt to prove its ability to exist against IE, Firefox, Safari and other Chrome or to be bought by Facebook which could find an extension of its global web strategy.
