Shopgate raises 5.3 million euros: m-commerce as a lever for e-commerce sales

The German start-up Shopgate, which manages the m-commerce strategies of more than 2,000 e-merchants, completed a fundraising of 5.3 million euros yesterday.

This financing was provided by the Danish company Northcap, and the German fund Creathor Ventures.

Shopgate is an m-commerce platform, which offers its e-commerce customers solutions for their mobile strategy: creation of shopping applications, online stores optimized for mobile purchase, but also integration of existing online stores on the marketplace Shopgate.
Founded in 2009 by Germans Andrea Anderheggen and Ortwin Kartmann, the company is based in Germany and in Palo Alto. In 2013, more than 2,000 German-speaking e-merchants used Shopgate solutions for their m-commerce strategy. The figures speak for themselves: every day, more than 200,000 users visit the online stores developed by Shopgate, which has around 2,000 apps on the AppStore and Android. Last April, building on this success, the start-up officially launched its solutions on the American market.

Shopgate is part of the trend m-commerce : within three years, online sales made via mobile should represent 24% of all e-commerce in the United States.

The fundraising carried out yesterday, amounting to 5.3 million euros, should help Shopgate to develop its activities in the American market. Currently employing 70 people, the company is also expected to expand its workforce. Andrea Anderheggen, co-founder and CEO of Shopgate, also wants to set up a worldwide affiliate network, and add physical stores to her number of customers.
