With 1.1 billion active users, Facebook can be considered the world’s largest image library. The social network is home to a total of 240 billion images, nearly 30 times more than Flickr and 70 times more than Instagram. 350 million new photos are uploaded to the platform every day. Snapchat, the mobile service for sharing photos for a limited time, saves 150 million new images uploaded every day! This is three times more than in December 2012 could we read in analyst Mary Meeker’s annual report, which puts the total number of photos uploaded daily at 550 million.
In the infographic below, piJnz, an agency specializing in the creation of mobile sites, explains this phenomenon thanks to the democratization of mobile phones:
- Of the 5.2 billion mobiles currently in service, 4.4 billion have a camera.
- 82% of mobile users take photographs with their mobiles.
- In 2012, 6 smartphones were sold for a camera. Sales of the latter fell by 10% last year.
