Online advertising, internet traffic … The last two studies to discover
+ 14.4% for online advertising in Europe in 2011, Internet traffic multiplied by 4 by 2016… Focus on two new studies.
+ 14.4% for online advertising in Europe in 2011
According to the last study published by the IAB institute, online advertising investments in Europe grew by 14.4%, reaching € 20.9 billion in 2011, against a growth of 15.3% between 2009 and 2010.
Online advertising therefore seems to be doing well in a global market which only recorded an increase of 0.8% over the same period. Search and display are the two most dynamic branches, registering growth at two figures (+ 17.9% and + 15.3%).
The study also indicates that the top 7 European countries account for nearly 75% of the income generated by online advertising. However, IAB points to very heterogeneous growth rates. Indeed, if France appears as the 3rd European country in terms of income, it has recorded growth of less than 10%. In contrast, Russia, the 6th country in terms of income, posted a record growth of 55%. The countries of Eastern Europe are also showing growth between 20 and 45%.

This dynamism can be explained, in large majority, by the increasing democratization of tablets and smartphones. The explosion in traffic also finds its source in the increase in the number of Internet users. In fact, within 4 years, 3.4 billion people should have access to the Internet, or nearly 45% of the world’s population. The number of web and mobile connections could thus reach nearly 19 billion in 2016. By this time, global internet speed would reach a1.3 zettabytes, ie four times the level observed in 2011 …
