[Numbers] How many Bitcoins are there in circulation?
This Monday May 22 in the morning, 1 Bitcoin is worth $ 2,104.99, according to Investing data.
In total, there is the equivalent of nearly $ 33 billion of Bitcoins in circulation to date.
For the first time in its history, the price of Bitcoin exceeded $ 2,000 on May 20. Two days later, on the morning of May 22, the price of the virtual currency is $ 2,104.99. Since its last low, at 1,648.30 dollars on May 13, the price of Bitcoin has increased by 28%. In total, it is the equivalent of nearly 33 billion dollars currently circulating in Bitcoins on the markets.
Last March, the cryptocurrency had already crossed a symbolic milestone in its development. For the first time, the price of Bitcoin exceeded that of gold. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) had shortly after rejected the proposal to create a Exchanged Traded Fund (ETF) dedicated to Bitcoin, due to the lack of regulation in the market.
This decision did not prevent the virtual currency to continue its ascent, and to stay above the price of gold, which is traded on Monday, May 22 at 1,254.53 dollars. In contrast, there is the equivalent of $ 8.2 trillion in gold in circulation in the markets today, nearly 250 times more than Bitcoins.
Note, in the cryptocurrency market, the iconic Bitcoin represents “only” 47% of the market. Other virtual currencies, such as Ethereum, which saw its price multiplied by 2 in the space of a month, or Ripple, which saw its price multiplied by 10 in a month, are also booming.
