The instant messaging application WhatsApp, bought by Facebook in 2014 for 19 billion dollars, continues to develop. It now brings together a community of one billion active daily users, according to a article published on his blog. Each month, 1.3 billion people use the application, almost as many as Messenger, the messaging system developed by Facebook. The latter indeed claimed 1.2 billion active users last April.
In total, 55 billion messages are sent every day via WhatsApp, along with 4.5 billion photos, and one billion videos.
That’s not all. WhatsApp Status, a feature largely inspired by Snapchat Stories launched last February, claims 250 million users just 5 months after its launch, according to information reported by TechCrunch. Instagram Stories, Snapchat’s other direct competitor in the fold of Facebook, has 250 million users. For comparison, Snapchat announced at the end of March a community of 166 million active users.
According to Mark Zuckerberg, the Messenger and WhatsApp teams are currently working on monetizing audiences for both applications.
