Twitter’s main competitor in China, Weibo, delivered results to make Jack Dorsey green with envy in the first quarter of 2017. The company posted revenue of $ 199.2 million, up $ 67. % compared to the same period in 2016. In parallel, its profit, of 46.9 million dollars, increased 561% in the space of one year.
For the first time since its creation, 3 years after Twitter, Weibo has even exceeded the blue bird social network in number of active users per month. The company headed by Gaofei Wang claims a community of 340 million monthly active users, up 30% compared to the same period in 2016, against 328 million monthly active users for Twitter.
The microblogging site surprised analysts with its latest quarterly results, recruiting 9 million new active users per month, an increase of 6% over the period. In addition, despite a turnover of 548 million dollars, down 8%, the social network did better than analysts’ forecasts. Note, although Twitter reduced the amount of its losses to 62 million dollars, the company remains in deficit in the first quarter.
