iOS and Google Play recorded 26 billion downloads this third quarter, according to data from App Annie. This figure is up 8% compared to the same period last year. The revenues generated by the applications are also increasing. 17 billion dollars in turnover were achieved over the period, an amount three times higher than last year.
18 billion apps downloaded from Google Play
According to the study, downloads on Google Play were more numerous than on iOS. On Android, 18 billion applications were downloaded, an increase of 10% compared to last year, against 8 billion for Apple, or 8% more than in the same period in 2016. The difference represents 125 %. This is particularly due to emerging countries like India. In just one year, the number of downloads has doubled in the country. In addition, the time spent on Android apps is up 40%, which represents 325 billion hours.
$ 11 billion in revenue for Apple
On the other hand, it is on iOS that spending for applications is the most numerous. Apple recorded $ 11 billion in revenue, which is twice that of Google. These additional revenues are mainly due to entertainment applications (Tencent on iOS and HBO Now on Google).
According to App Annie, the number of app downloads will soon approach 240 billion. In 2016 alone, 96 billion apps were installed. By 2021, 100 billion consumer spending can be achieved on iOS and Google Play.
