Microsoft has released the results of its fiscal fourth quarter, which ended June 30, 2014. Revenue reached $ 23.38 billion, up 18% from the same period in 2013, but profit fell 7% to $ 4.6 billion. A figure which is mainly explained by its subsidiary Nokia which showed an operating loss of 692 million dollars. Over the year, however, profit rose 1% to $ 22.1 billion.
For its part, the Redmond firm recorded strong growth in the cloud (+ 147% at an annualized rate) to $ 4.4 billion, in particular thanks to the arrival of its Office 365 suite on Apple iPads which enabled to drive sales. Its server and hosting offerings, including Windows Azure in particular, saw their revenues increase by 16% over the quarter and those of Windows licenses recorded an increase of 11%.
For the full fiscal year, Microsoft achieved sales of $ 86.8 billion, up 12% year-on-year, for a gross margin up 4% to 59.89 billion dollars.
