[Médiamétrie] The mobile internet audience in France in March 2012

Médiamétrie has just published the latest figures relating to mobile internet audience for the month of March. Over the period studied, the institute notably highlights the great breakthrough of news sites. In fact, in March 2012, 7.4M mobile users visited at least one news site, ie 638,000 more than in February (+ 9%). This dynamism has raised the “News” sub-category to 8th place among the most consulted in March, whereas it was classified 9th in February.

Mediametrie The mobile internet audience in France in March 2012The other main finding of this study concerns sports news which, for its part, recorded the strongest increase of the month in the number of unique mobile users. In fact, in total, more than 5M mobile users consulted at least one site or application in the “Sport” sub-category in March, ie 717,000 more than in February (+ 16%).

Médiamétrie also indicates that in March 2012, nearly 9 out of 10 mobile users (89.5%) visited at least one site – whether or not optimized for mobile. And more than 2 in 3 (67.1%) have consulted at least one connected mobile application from their smartphone, compared to 66.2% last February.

In terms of rankings, among the most visited mobile sites have found: Google, Facebook, Youtube, Apple and Orange, which regained its 5th position after being overtaken by Twitter last February.
