[Médiamétrie] The mobile internet audience in France in January 2012
It’s a first. Médiamétrie has just inaugurated its measurement of the monthly mobile internet audience in France. In fact, the study already existed but until then had been satisfied with a quarterly survey. The scope of the study thus covers 13,743 sites and 1,907 mobile applications. These first results, relating to the month of January 2012, include in addition to 3G navigation, the use of mobile internet in wifi, via a statistical estimate.
Thus, over the month studied, nearly 9 out of 10 mobile users (89.8%) visited at least one site, whether or not optimized for mobile. And, nearly 2 in 3 (65.3%) have viewed at least one connected mobile application from their smartphone.
Médiamétrie first established a ranking of the Top 5 categories most consulted by mobile users. Portals / search engines thus arrive on the first step of the podium. Next come the Telecom category, the entertainment category, then news and information sites and finally IT and consumer electronics platforms.
As for the most visited sites, we find: Google (13.4M VU), Facebook (12.4M VU), Youtube (7.7M VU) Twitter (7.2M VU), then the French Orange, in 5th position with 6.5M LCV.
In terms of applications, Google is also in 1st position (10.4M VU). Next come YouTube (8M VU), iTunes (7M VU), then Game Center (3.8M VU) and Facebook (3.2M VU).
