Médiamétrie figures: Internet audience in 2012
Médiamétrie yesterday unveiled its data concerning the Internet for the year 2012. France thus has 3% additional Internet users for a total population of 41.2M in the last quarter of 2012.
The number of mobile users achieved 23.6M, in 24% increase compared to 2011, validating the growing importance of mobile devices in Internet access. 1.2M of them exclusively use their mobiles to connect to it.
Médiamétrie emphasizes that 2012 was particularly rich in political and sporting events, boosting the audience of news sites and social networks, which, like online video, continue to grow.
France has 30M registered on community sites, while 80% of Internet users consulted this type of site in December 2012. Similarly, 75% of mobile users and 90% of tablonauts use community applications.
In July 2012, the number of videonauts had increased by 17% compared to the previous year, while the time devoted to this practice increased by 28%. In December 2012, there were in France 33.7M videonauts including 87% of young people aged 18 to 24. Médiamétrie notes the rise of Social TV (25% of Internet users have already commented on a TV program on social networks during its broadcast) while 50% of the French use a second screen watching television.
Another strong trend, m-commerce now affects nearly 1 in 5 mobile users (compared to 57% advanced this morning by InMobi).
Médiamétrie finally gives detailed figures on household equipment, partly disclosed by Paris Dauphine in its quarterly barometer on the digital economy.
