Vivendi announced yesterday its intention to consider “two binding takeover bids” for its Maroc Telecom subsidiary, thus confirming the rumors raised a few weeks ago. They come from Qatari Ooredoo (ex-QTel) and Emirati Etisalat. This participation is valued at around 4.5 billion euros on the stock market.
Etisalat and Ooredoo (ex-QTel), whose names circulated since the first rumors of disposals last year, have confirmed the effective filing of “firm offers”, while Vivendi last night released an evasive statement of this development.
Vivendi’s share in Maroc Telecom is estimated at $ 5.9 billion (€ 4.5 billion). Etisalat, Emirati telecommunications giant, recalled that it had expressed its interest in the subsidiary in January 2013.
