Alibaba has just invested in series B in Visualead, an Israeli start-up specializing in QR Codes and O2O services (fromoffline towards theonline). The transaction amount was not sent. The two companies have reached an agreement allowing Alibaba to use Visualead’s patents and technologies for its ecosystem.
The company was already working with Mashangtao, a technology available to sellers on Taobao Marketplace and Tmall.com, two Alibaba marketplaces, who want to generate QR Codes.

We believe that Visualead’s Visual QR Code technology will complement our initiatives in mobile marketing and enhance our ability to take advantage of the burgeoning O2O opportunities in China ”Zhang Kuo, Director of Mashangtao Technology Department at Alibaba Group.
Founded in 2012, Visualead has offices in China and Israel. The company develops QR Code solutions for mobile marketing purposes (transport tickets, mobile coupons, payments, branded content, anti-counterfeiting checks, etc.) and claims more than 500,000 customers including Asics, HP, Intel McDonald’s or Mercedes -Benz.
