Linkio about to complete its 1st fundraising to invade the SmartHome market

Linkio It is a team of 5 engineers from Grenoble who developed the 1st Bluetooth Low Energy Mesh solution to connect & mesh together, an infinite number of remote programmable objects by smartphone and voice assistant.

Sold in the form of licenses to manufacturers who wish to provide connectivity to their objects, Linkio technology can make any object intelligent. Thanks to its integrable module and a mobile application, smart home or building equipment (lighting, energy, home automation, robots, household appliances, surveillance, audio & media, etc.) can be controlled & programmed by smartphone, then tomorrow by the simple voice of the end user. Linkio techno is already compatible with Google Home and Amazon Alexa.

Deborah Donnier: Tell us about your pivot between creation and today?

Kevin BERTON, CEO of Linkio: Very soon after the Kickstarter in 2015, we realized that designing and distributing ourselves in BtoC was too complicated. With the help of the LeCarré accelerator and the Entreprendre Network, we undertook a strategic reflection which led us to completely review our business model. We are now selling our technology – in the form of licenses – to manufacturers who want to bring connectivity to their objects. We do not regret it because this is what allowed us to put on the market before anyone else a Bluetooth Low Energy Mesh module that allows you to easily network any object or equipment in the house.

What needs does your service meet today?

The Linkio solution (module + app) meets a need for ease of use of connected equipment in the home. By choosing Bluetooth Mesh technology, the end user no longer needs to call on an installer to set up their own network of connected objects. Bluetooth is the most widespread protocol, present natively on all mobile phones, everyone knows how to use it, home automation has never been so affordable, technically and financially!

What’s your value proposition?

Bring networking functionality through a simple and inexpensive connectivity solution to any smart home or building equipment. The fields are very varied: home automation, lighting, energy, security, surveillance, closures, household appliances, audio & media, robots, health … I would say that the raison d’être of Linkio is to make the house and the building connected to within everyone’s reach. Our module is already compatible with GoogleHome and Amazon Alexa assistants, can you imagine programming by voice scenarios of networks of sensors and objects integrating Linkio technology? Well it will be possible, at home and by you, very soon!

Who are the users of your solution?

Our customers are the manufacturers of connected objects (or equipment to be connected!). Our module can be easily integrated, we support our clients’ R&D teams, and even provide a basic (smartphone) application that can be customized and integrated as a “white label”.

In all our decisions, we take into account the end customer, the user of our customers’ products, because we know that he is looking for reliable, easy to use and implement solutions.

What development plan corresponds to this fundraising?

In the team, we are all engineers. We therefore planned from the start to concentrate our efforts on R&D and the acquisition of first customers during the first two years and then to raise funds to accelerate at the commercial level. We will devote 2/3 of the amounts raised to Sales and Marketing. In our field, things are going very quickly. Every month we have good news from the field, confirming our strategic choices, in particular that of the Bluetooth protocol. The USA, where 25 million voice assistants (GoogleHome and Amazon Alexa) were sold in 2017, will be a market that we will be attracted (sucked?) Quickly. We also plan a part of the budget to develop ourselves there.

Who are your competitors?

If we look at the connectivity solution for objects and smart home and building equipment, there are very few low Energy Mesh Bluetooth modules on the market with features dedicated to home intelligence. . The strategic choice to develop above all a module that can be integrated into any type of equipment differentiates us from those who have developed connectivity intended only for interior lighting.

In the end, there are not many actors ready for the Mesh (networking of objects and increasing the Bluetooth range) dedicated to smart buildings. NodOn, one of our clients, was rewarded at CES in Las Vegas in January for its super innovative products… based on Linkio technology. No other company at CES showcased efficient, market-ready BLE Mesh technology.

A pioneer in meetings between start-ups and investors in France, the 21st edition of Venture 5i, the financing forum of the Forum 5i® (Innovation, Industry, Inclusion, Investment, International), organized by Grenoble-Alpes Métropole, will take place on 30 and May 31 at the WTC Grenoble Congress Center. The Venture 5i® makes it possible to offer optimal conditions for fundraising by organizing an annual meeting dedicated to innovative companies from Auvergne Rhône-Alpes and the Alpine region in research financing and national and international investors. More than 890 million euros have been raised since 1998.
