IoT: Orange buys Ocean to strengthen its position in the geolocation of cars

Orange Business Services has just announced the acquisition of the company Ocean, which becomes an entity of Orange Applications for Business, specializing in connected objects and data analysis. The transaction amount was not sent.

Founded in 2003, Ocean publishes vehicle geolocation services and targets companies that manage fleets. Today, the company claims 2,000 corporate clients for a fleet of 45,000 vehicles under management. In 2013, it generated sales of more than 10 million euros, for a net profit of more than 1.4 million euros.

Strengthen in the machine-to-machine

With this acquisition, the French telecom operator strengthens its fleet management activities, a market it occupies with offers machine-to-machine (60,000 vehicles managed). At European level, the group specifies that this market is estimated at 35 million company vehicles by 2018 *.

“Companies with fleets of vehicles or machines to manage have a lot of benefits to draw from these technologies to carry out their digital transformation and thus develop new processes and business models », Declares Thierry Bonhomme, executive director of Orange Business Services.

“The project built with Orange on the basis of the technical platform newly developed by Ocean gives us the opportunity to continue our growth by relying on what has made our success in recent years, in particular, an organizational model and unique development in its market, ”adds Jacques Rivière, President of Ocean.
