Here is a report which shower the recent French hopes to surpass London in terms of digital. Tech City UK, the digital arm of the British Prime Minister’s office, released its third inventory annual ecosystem across the country. While it was only interested during its creation in 2010 in the districts of East London where start-ups and funds are located, Tech City UK now aggregates data from all over the country.
Faced with London, if Paris came to follow the strike force of its rival, particularly in terms of venture capital, with funding only 7% lower according to La French Tech / CB Insights, this Tech City UK report comes back to the English time clocks, and this in a post-Brexit context.
In this latest national report, prefaced by Prime Minister Theresa May, the United Kingdom will have attracted 6.8 billion pounds of investments in Tech in 2016 (or nearly 8 billion euros). This is more than three times more than France which will have garnered 2.3 billion euros in investments, according to the FrenchWeb Invest. Unsurprisingly, London and its regional “clusters” captured 68% of this funding, according to the report which surveyed 2,700 ecosystem players and 220 partner communities.
On the French side, Paris is predicted to be able to dethrone London, with a recently acquired 2nd place ahead of Berlin, on access to capital in the last quarter of 2016.
Molotov is doing well. Nine months after its launch, the new French solution for the distribution of TV channels on the Web now claims one million users. Barely crossed this milestone, Jean-Marc Denoual, the boss of Molotov, is already targeting two million users by the end of the year. On the occasion of this first assessment, Jean-Marc Denoual also specified that the average duration of use is 1h15 on all screens, with an average age of 35 years. In addition, users spend an average of 80 minutes per day on the platform. They spend 40% of the time consuming content on smartphones, 40% on tablets or computers and 20% on televisions.
Launched in July 2016 by Jean-David Blanc, Pierre Lescure and Jean-Marc Denoual, Molotov aims to become the “Netflix of television”, with the first OTT platform (over the top) of the genre on TV programs. The platform gives access to up to 70 channels (including 25 French TNT channels). Since its creation, Molotov has raised 32 million euros, notably from the British group Sky.
Indicators are green for Tesla. The company headed by Elon Musk has indeed announced that it has delivered 25,000 vehicles in the first quarter of the year, an increase of 69% compared to the same period in 2016, according to information provided by Venture Beat. In terms of production too, Tesla is showing record performance, with 25,418 vehicles produced during the first three months of the year.
If it manages to maintain this pace, the company, which aims to deliver between 47,000 and 50,000 vehicles in the first half of 2017, should meet its short-term goals. However, it remains far from its stated objective of producing 500,000 vehicles per year by 2018.
