Captain Train, a travel agency specializing in the sale of train and bus tickets in Europe, has just concluded an agreement with the Iberian operator Renfe (the equivalent of the SNCF in Spain). This announcement comes just a few months after the takeover of Captain Train by the British pure-player Trainline last March. With this partnership, the start-up is preparing to gain access to the Spanish rail market, “the second largest high-speed network in the world”. “This partnership with Renfe responds to a long-standing demand from Spanish travelers already using Captain Train for their trips in Europe“, has explained Jean-Daniel Guyot, president of Captain Train, on the sidelines of this announcement.
Launched in 2009 by Jean-Daniel Guyot, Martin Ottenwaelter and Valentin Surrel, Captain Train is a trade intermediary between carriers and travelers. The platform allows its users to consult journeys and book journeys by train or bus on the network served by European rail carriers. The service covers France, Germany, Spain, Italy and all of their cross-border countries.
By disembarking on Spanish rails, the start-up now claims access to 23,000 stations in 20 European countries, served by 15 rail operators. According to figures communicated by the platform, Captain Train now has 1.7 million registered users and nearly 2 million tickets sold each year.
