Apple has just acquired the start-up WifiSLAM, specializing in indoor geolocation, for an amount of around $ 20M. A sign that the war in this market is on the rise notes the Wall Street Journal source of this information.

The operation was confirmed by a spokesperson for the Apple brand who did not want to say more.

Based in Silicon Valley and co-founded two years ago by Joseph Huang, the young shoot now has a handful of employees. Relying on WiFi technology, it has notably developed a system that detects the precise situation of a mobile user inside different buildings such as airports or shopping centers.

According to the specialized platform AngelList, WifiSLAM has already raised funds from a battery of business angels, including Don Dodge employed at Google.
