More details with Christophe Piquemal, founder and CEO of Otonohm.
FrenchWeb: What needs does your service meet?
Christophe Piquemal, founder and CEO of Otonohm: We design, produce and sell on-board energy solutions that allow mobile users to charge or use their electrical devices anywhere, anytime. Otonohm notably offers universal autonomous power supply systems (the Travel Charge Bag is the first bag equipped with a 230V socket, USB sockets and cigarette lighter) to charge your phone, tablet but also your laptop, your camera. , its drone batteries… We also offer nomadic solar panels, battery boosters (cars, two wheels), external batteries, cigarette lighter PC chargers.
What’s your value proposition?
In a society in perpetual motion, more and more equipped with electrical devices, connected, nomadic and equipped with more and more powerful … and energy-intensive technology, we respond to two major daily anxieties: lack of energy and loss network.
Our service is the new generation of nomadic energy solutions and today the only player on the European market to offer the connection of devices with a “classic” socket. Everything can now be done easily anywhere.
Who are the users of your solutions?
Our users seek freedom of movement and action. We free them from the constraints of nomadism. Now the consultant, freelance or salesperson can continue to operate his laptop whether it is on the train or on the plane, or at his client’s. The student no longer has to wait for the only mains socket of the amphitheater to become free to continue taking his lessons. The photographer or videographer can go on a peaceful outdoor shoot. The camper can leave with peace of mind. All its electrical equipment (GPS, lamps, kettle, mosquito repellent socket, etc.) will find a power supply solution. The drone racing enthusiast can now fly for longer by recharging his batteries and repairing his machine on the spot! In short, the uses are multiple!
What sets you apart from your competition?
Several American brands offer stand-alone multi-outlet power systems similar to ours: Goal Zero, Charge Tech, Go Plug, AMPL. They operate on 110V and are not present on the European market.
In general, external batteries represent a form of competition because it is a solution well known to the general public. But these backup batteries are limited to USB charging, and not always efficient.
On the European markets, their products do not correspond to the standards in force. According to the distributors, they innovate little where we have decided to offer 6 new products per year.
What is your development plan?
We started by addressing high-tech with our solutions for charging a laptop anytime, anywhere. We are also making progress in the outdoors as well as in mobility with very innovative power solutions.
We want to be present in the various markets mentioned above in France and quickly in Europe.
We are starting the distribution of our products in Europe and Africa, North America is scheduled for 2018.
What are your challenges?
Our different challenges are:
– market: International presence this year.
– business: Positioning itself as a multi-sector battery specialist with innovative solutions.
– financial: We are planning a fundraising in the second half of the year to support our communication as well as the development of new technology.
– HR: Recruitment at three levels: project manager, marketing and sales management of distributors.
