The amount

The French start-up which publishes the Happn dating application has ad having raised 12.5 million euros from Raine and Idinvest. This is not the first time that the company has completed a significant round of funding since it had already raised 8 million euros last year, in particular from the Anglo-Saxon fund DN Capital and Alven Capital.

The concept

Launched in January 2014, Happn is a dating application whose model is based on geolocation. The people who have crossed paths will then be put in touch. “Our strength is to have the objective of bringing reality back to the virtual world. On Happn, we are not looking for a profile for a potential meeting. These are the people around that we find in real time on his timeline », Explained to Frenchweb Didier Rappaport, the founder, a year ago during his previous fundraising. The latter is also one of the co-founders of Dailymotion.

A little less than two years after its launch, Happn claims more than 6 million members worldwide. If the access to the application is free for the users, to be remunerated, the company markets credits which make it possible to open certain functionalities.

The market

With this new investment, the start-up intends to continue its international development, particularly in Asia. In all cases, the company must face competition from the American Tinder whose dating system is also based on geolocation.
