Football World Cup: 1.6 billion views are expected on YouTube

The 2014 FIFA World Cup will indeed be the event of the year for the media and entertainment. It will probably also be on the web, as shown a study published by Google last May. Some numbers to remember for the most watched sport in the world on YouTube:

  • More requests than for the Super Bowl, the Olympics and the Tour de France combined
  • The majority of requests come from Sierra Leone, Brazil, Haiti, Costa Rica and Uruguay
  • In the United States, the football-themed digital audience increased by 233% in 2014

  • 1.6 billion views and 64.7 million hours of programming on YouTube
  • Between 2010 and 2014, the audience over a 30-day period is 900 times higher
