The European Commission and the United States Department of Justice yesterday validated the proposed acquisition of Motorola Mobility through Google. The two authorities considered that this transaction did not in itself interfere with competition law.
Joaquin Almunia, European Commissioner in charge of competition, remains vigilant and specifies that the European executive will ensure that Google does not abuse the new patents from which it will benefit thanks to this takeover.
Indeed, announced last August, this transaction of $ 12.5 billion should allow Google to get hold of the 17,000 patents that Motorola Mobility holds. The United States has also reportedly issued a similar warning.
Finally, according to Reuters, the Chinese authorities should also vote on this operation by March 20.
