Mediametry and the Gfk firm have just published the new results of the study “Multimedia Equipment Reference”. The 3rd quarter survey shows that the computer market continues to grow with nearly ¾ of households equipped. Mobility is also in the spotlight. We will thus note a clear increase in purchase intentions for tablets.
- In the 3rd quarter of 2011, 73.2% of households had one or more microcomputers in France. Equipment growing by 2.1 points in one year and 10 points in 3 years.
- The laptop segment is growing twice as fast as that of computers in general. Today 44.1% of households have one against 40% in 2010. Today there are 3.4 million households which are equipped against 2.2 million in the 3rd quarter of 2010.
- 3 times more households than in 2010 plan to buy a tablet within 6 months, ie 525,000 households. It is especially the 35-49 year olds who are considering this purchase: 40% of households planning to buy one have a head of household in this age group.
- If touch pads are booming, this equipment seems to complement the computer. And multi-equipment is developing more and more in homes. Today, nearly one in three households owns several computers (31.4%), compared to 28.7% a year ago.
