After a strong improvement in the market in 2010 and 2011, TV sales should return to normal levels in 2012 according to the latest Simavelec publication. The union which brings together the main manufacturers present in France therefore confirms forecasts released by GfK last week.
The French should therefore buy only 7.6M televisions this year, against 8.7M in 2011. If sales fall in 2012, this new year should however be marked by the surge in connected TVs. In fact, in 2011, 20% of televisions sold were connectable to the Internet, a figure which should reach 40% this year, and even 80% within three years. While connected TV is therefore capturing more and more market share, the uses are not yet there. Indeed, the connection rate of viewers would not exceed 33% according to the union.
Finally, sales of 3D televisions should double this year, reaching 1.4M units sold.
