[CONFIDENTIEL] Bitcoin and SegWit2x, sale of Mashable, Facebook, Tesla …
Bitcoin Episode 2153: After last week’s gimmick, Bitcoin hit a new high on Friday, approaching $ 8,000. According to CoinDesk, the cryptocurrency was trading at $ 7,998.40 early in the morning New York time. Last weekend, however, the price of the cryptocurrency had fallen sharply to $ 5,500. In less than a week, the capitalization of bitcoin has therefore taken 45%, from 92 to 133.5 billion dollars.
The downturn last week was largely due to the cancellation of the SegWit2x fork. The fork is an update of the protocol, resulting in the creation of a new branch of bitcoin, which takes the form of a new currency, in this case Bitcoin2x. When a fork occurs, bitcoin holders receive for free an equivalent of the new currency created – thus free money – hence the massive purchases preceding the operation. But the SegWit2x update was finally canceled at the last moment by the developers, for lack of consensus, causing the momentary disinterest of investors and logically the fall of the price.
But today Coinbase, one of the major cryptocurrency exchange platforms, is announcing on a blog post that it would still be possible for the fork to finally succeed, hence the increase observed today.
Since the start of the year, bitcoin has appreciated 700%.
According to information from Wall Street Journal, the American media site Mashable is about to be sold for barely $ 50 million to Ziff Davis, publisher of tech, gaming, health (PCMag, AskMen, Speedtest, ExtremeTech, IGN, Everyday Health).
This is an amount well below the expectations nurtured by its founder, Pete Cashmore, and its investors, barely 20% of its 2016 valuation. Indeed, Mashable was still valued at $ 250 million last year, at the opportunity to raise 15 million dollars, led by the Turner media group, a subsidiary of Time Warner.
In 2016, Mashable reported a net loss of $ 10 million, despite revenue growing 36% to $ 42 million.
Cashmore started Mashable in 2005, as a blog, when he was still a teenager in Scotland.
At the same time, always according to the Wall Street Journal, BuzzFeed and Vice Media would also encounter difficulties in achieving their 2017 objectives: BuzzFeed would end the year down 20% from its goal of $ 350 million, while Vice would not reach the planned $ 800 million.
The news surprised everyone. Elon Musk has announced the launch of two new vehicles: a semi-trailer and a roadster.
The truck named “Semi” should be on the market in 2019. So beautiful that it would almost make you want to pass your HGV license, it will be 100% electric and will be able to go up to 100 km / h in less than 5 seconds. The automaker assures that its truck will be able to travel 800 km with a maximum load and a cruising speed close to that on highways. “As 80% of trips are less than 400 km, this means that you can go to your destination and come back without rechargingElon Musk says.
The second announcement concerns a new sports car with a range of 1,000 km. Still in prototype state, the model should reach 100km / h in less than two seconds (!!). This little car should be marketed in 2020 at a price of $ 200,000.
These two new vehicles arrive after the publication of the manufacturer’s rather disappointing quarterly results. Tesla announced a loss of $ 671 million, or 530 million euros.
