According to the latest figures published by the Gartner firm, only 10M PCs were sold in France in 2012, a fall of 6.4% in the space of a year.
This erosion would even have accelerated during the last quarter with a decline of 13.6% compared to the 4th quarter of 2011. No sector was spared. Thus, in the last quarter of the year, sales of laptops fell by 12.5% and those of desktop computers by 15.5%.
This gloom could be explained in particular by the boom in tablets, which directly cannibalize PC sales.
Given these figures, Gartner expects the PC market to deteriorate further in the coming months, with a double-digit drop expected for the 1st quarter of 2013
