The online hotel reservation specialist has opened discussions with the German eBuddy with a view to acquiring the mobile and internet instant messaging application.

“For more than 9 years, we have provided chat and messaging products to hundreds of millions of users around the world. With, we are delighted to add our experience and enthusiasm to their team ” declares the company on its blog.

The Japanese online gaming giant GREE had already approached the service in 2012. The operation then resulted in a minority stake in the capital of the social network based in Amsterdam. Founded in 2004, eBuddy claimed over 250 million accounts in 2011, including 33 million monthly active users.
