Present at CES in Las Vegas, Laurent Le Pen, CEO of Omate, shares with FrenchWeb his view of his sector:

laurent-le pen-omate-2016“The connected objects sector has been particularly stormy in recent months. Most companies in the first wave of wearables have either gone bankrupt (Filip, Skully, etc.) or been taken over as spare parts, leaving large slates with customers and suppliers (Pebble). Some have been able to save their skins by being bought out by big manufacturers such as Withings by Nokia, Misfit by Fossil Group, but the market remains gloomy. Dozens of companies, often from Shenzhen, now offer similar products at a ridiculous price. The market wearables general public is saturated on the one hand by large manufacturers (Fibit, Apple, Samsung, Garmin …), and on the other hand by small players cost killers who take the crumbs of the cake. “

CES-2017This is a record for French Tech: 275 French companies are present this year at CES Las Vegas, making France the third most represented country, behind the United States and China. What are these companies looking for when they participate in this world famous fair? What do they really get out of it in the end? So many questions answered by the French Accelerator in his study “CES… And after?“. The accelerator interviewed 178 start-ups that participated in the 2016 edition of the event.

More than 9 in 10 respondents say they attended CES Las Vegas with the aim of finding new customers or partners, and 27% of them were looking to meet investors. Among the other reasons mentioned, we note the desire to increase its notoriety in France as well as in the United States, or to test the interest of a product on international prospects. After 4 days of the fair, 77% of respondents believe that they have enriched their professional network, while 9% have found help for their fundraising. A little over a third (34%) say they have met new customers and distribution partners, gained media visibility, and validated the enthusiasm for their products abroad. As a direct consequence of this, nearly 3 out of 4 respondents wish to participate in the 2017 edition.

For nearly 7 out of 10 entrepreneurs, the key factor for the success of their business project lies in their ability to sell, according to the study “Entrepreneurs and Management“, produced by Intuit France with 294 French entrepreneurs. While the ability to manage their business well is a priority for 32% of respondents, nearly half of them believe that accounting and management tools, which are essential for good management, are a source of daily difficulties.
