Arcep has just published its mobile observatory for the 4th quarter of 2011, or the latest mobile inventory in France before the arrival of Free mobile on the market.

The study shows in particular that the national park continues to grow with 68.5M SIM cards, an increase of 2.3% compared to last quarter and an annual increase of 5.4%. The plans represent 49.1M SIM cards while prepaid accounts for 19.4M SIM cards. Finally, 3.1M “Internet only” SIM cards are currently in use across the country.

Another important lesson from this observatory: mobile users now represent almost half of the park. Indeed, according to Arcep, the number of people who have consulted the Internet or sent an MMS while on the move at least once during the last month ”now represents 49.7% of the total number of mobile users.

In addition, the number of virtual operators continues to grow with 7.4M cards, up 8.5% growth over the quarter. They now represent 11.30% of the market.

Finally, a little more than 1M mobile numbers were ported during the quarter, an annual increase of 35%.
