Apple launched yesterday Maps Connect, a portal allowing businesses to list their business in the Maps application, like what Google does with its Maps service. To display their brand (store, restaurant, etc.) in the mapping software, managers must connect to the dedicated platform with their Apple ID identifiers and manually enter the requested information.
Retailers can specify opening hours, categories and add links to their website, Facebook or Twitter page. The firm at the apple verifies that the registration of a business is indeed carried out by its owner by sending a code by telephone or if the e-mail address corresponds to the URL of the site. The service is only available in the United States at this time. Eventually, the apple-based firm could use this base to extend its iBeacon solution.
