The American e-commerce giant Amazon announced Wednesday that it intends to start delivering its packages by drones soon. ” We have worked hard to design fully electric drones that can travel up to 25 km and deliver packages weighing less than 2.3 kg to customers in under 30 minutes ”, wrote a group leader, Jeff Wilke, in a blog post.
The delivery system “100% safe” ?
” We hope (…) to deliver packages by drones in the coming months ”, he added, without specifying the place where these deliveries could take place. Amazon conducted its first drone delivery tests in the United Kingdom in 2016, US laws at the time making the exercise more restrictive in the United States according to the e-commerce giant.
Delivery drones can ” take off and land vertically, like a helicopter ”, described Mr. Wilke, assuring that the devices had been designed to remain stable even in strong winds. ” We know that customers will only be reassured of being delivered by drones if the system is 100% safe ”, he stressed. Amazon said earlier this year that it wants to reduce delivery times for customers who subscribe to its Prime service.
