Airbnb hopes to reach city tax deals with 500 more cities
To protect yourself from any tax laws against it, Airbnb tries to protect his rear. The peer-to-peer accommodation platform thus wishes to conclude agreements on tourist taxes with 700 cities in total.
After signing agreements with 200 cities, Brian chesky, CEO of the Californian start-up, announces in the columns of Financial Times that it hopes to sign 500 new by 2018. Although the platform operates in more than 34,000 cities around the world, Airbnb estimates that the cities targeted by these agreements represent 90% of its activity.
In France, its second market after the United States, the platform has set up the automatic collection of the tourist tax (0.83 euros per night and per traveler) from its users in Paris and Chamonix last year. The procedure has been extended to other large cities, such as Amsterdam and San Francisco, where Airbnb is engaged in a legal standoff with the city that requires rental owners to register with it and pay their fees. a package of 50 dollars.
The battle between Snapchat and Instagram with interposed functionalities continues in earnest. After the launch of Stories last August (very largely inspired by Snapchat), Instagram announces the launch of two new features: live on Instagram Stories, and ephemeral videos in its messaging, Direct.
Users of the social network specializing in images can now share live what they are doing with their community, and send videos with a limited lifespan to their friends. Remember that Stories has conquered more than 100 million users barely two months after its launch, and that Instagram Direct claims more than 300 million monthly users.
By 2020, 222.6 million used smartphones are expected to be sold worldwide, according to data IDC. This is 2.7 times more than in 2015, when 81.3 million units were sold. Assuming that a second-hand smarphone sells for an average of $ 136, the American research firm estimates the market potential at more than $ 30 billion by 2020.
“The demand for used smartphones is already constrained (it cannot be satisfied, editor’s note) in certain markets like the United States. Mobile operators are the most affected, given their need for replacement smartphones for their customers who have opted for insurance when purchasing their phone“, Explains one of the leaders of the study in a press release. From an 18.7% market share in 2015, the United States should thus increase to 24.8% in 2020.
It’s no surprise that 87% of consumers research information on the Internet before buying a product. But are they more sensitive to the marketing messages that the brands themselves post on social networks, or to the feedback of other consumers? This is the question that wanted to answer Smart Focus, a company specializing in “contextualized” marketing, in its study “What is the impact of UGC content on consumer purchasing behavior?“.
First observation, more than one in four consumers say they trust the content shared by other consumers more than the information shared by the brands themselves. 61% of respondents to the survey combine marketing information and customer reviews. Finally, three-quarters of respondents declare that they themselves have already shared their experience with a brand, product or service on the web.
** Study carried out among 860 French consumers, in November 2016
