More and more French people are using the mobile internet via an application rather than via an internet browser (Safari for iPhone, Chrome for Android, etc.). “83.4% of them consulted at least one in August 2013 against 72.2% a year earlier »Specifies Mediametrie which presents the mobile internet audience in France for the month of August 2013.
A strong increase which does not however make it possible to exceed the direct consultation of mobile sites (92.8%, or +1.3 percentage point over year). This surge is explained by the fact that 59% of users in fact choose this consultation channel for the ease of use it represents.
While the “entertainment” and “telecom / internet services” categories occupy the top two positions on the podium in terms of the highest number of applications, “news and information” only occupy fifth place, behind travel.
In total, the institute reveals that 14% of French internet users who own a smartphone have between 50 and 100 applications on their terminal. Only 5% have more than a hundred.
