App sales on the Apple App Store have never been so good. In the weeks marking the Christmas and New Year periods, a record was even broken: over $ 1.1 billion was spent on apps and purchases in-app during the two weeks preceding January 3, said Apple. Also, another record was broken on January 1: 144 million dollars of purchases were recorded in a single day.

In the end, $ 20 billion was spent last year on the App Store, said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of marketing. An important figure when we know that the Cupertino company takes a commission of 30% on these purchases, which represents approximately 6 billion dollars of income for it, and 14 billion for the developers. Since 2008, Apple even claims that 40 billion dollars have been donated to developers.

The American group specifies that games (Minecraft: Pocket Edition, Trivia Crack), social networks (Facebook Messenger, WeChat, Snapchat) as well as entertainment applications were the most popular categories last year on its platform. It also highlights the rise of games and apps that rely on a paid subscription.
